Goal conundrum

Most of us are running towards our so-called "goals"..for some self-defined (as they think) and for some defined by others (as they claim). How far do we run? What's the end? Will we stop only when we get tired? Are goals a way of keeping one motivated a.k.a carrrot to a donkey so that it keeps moving? Is it necessary to have goals...?

Time and again, a lot of us come across this situation.."What is your goal?" Things get more technical at times with the question broken down into "What is short term goal and What is your long term goal?" Bullshit..I just cant fathom how do we keep fooling ourselves in the name of Goals. I meet a guy who has a goal to be a doctor..after 5 years he has a goal to become IAS..after 5 years he now wants to be MBA..forget this..a easier situation is when at night you have the goal to wake up early morning and in the morning you are snoozing alarms.

An amazing quote from Bhagvada Gita which looks like an alternative to this Goal fad..(but then as I feel - no wisdom that comes from outside is true wisdom)

"Karmanye Vadhikaraste Ma Phaleshu Kadachana"
Ma Karman Phala Hetur Bhurmatey Sangostava Akarman"

"You have a right to perform your prescribed action, but you are not entitled to the fruits of your action. Never consider yourself the cause of the results of your activities, and never be associated to not doing your duty."

There is a need for setting up a goal. If not for a goal, you would not know where to move ahead... It would be like traveling to an unknown destination. Chances are you would get lost.
As far as changing goals are concerned, its human nature. You might be wanting something but when you see something better and more suitable for you, your needs change and then you strive towards that.
Enjoy...
